Are you ready to flex your vocabulary skills and raise money for a good cause? The Rotary Club of Guelph South invites word lovers to their Scrabble party on Saturday, April 12 at the Guelph Royal Canadian Legion from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. This exciting event, in partnership with The Children’s Foundation Keep Kids Fed at Home and Guelph GoGo Grandmothers (Stephen Lewis Foundation), promises to be a fun, friendly, and collaborative way to play Scrabble while supporting both local and global initiatives.
Rotarian Celia Clark, who is helping to organize the event, explained that the cost of entry is only $25 per player, with all proceeds being split between the two charities. “This event is perfect for anyone who enjoys playing Scrabble or wants to give it a try in a light-hearted, team-based setting,” said Clark.
How It Works:
This isn’t your typical competitive Scrabble game. Instead of individual players competing against one another, the event will have tables of four people, working together to earn the highest possible score as a team. With more than 40 game boards available, participants will work together to create the best words and strategically hit those coveted double and triple word scores. “It’s all about teamwork,” Clark explained. “You’re trying to maximize the table’s score as a whole, which makes it more fun and collaborative.”
Prizes and Fun Additions:
Throughout the event, there will be plenty of chances to win fun prizes, including for the best team name and the highest-scoring team. Plus, there will be a door prize. Additionally, if you land a word that’s usually off-limits—like proper nouns such as “Guelph” or “Africa”—you can raise your hand and call out for a special prize, such as delicious chocolates from P.E.I.
Support Local and Global Causes:
Both Keep Kids Fed at Home and Guelph GoGo Grandmothers will have market tables and a silent auction, where attendees can support the causes directly.
-
Keep Kids Fed at Home is a local program providing nutritious food packages to kids in need, helping ensure they have meals to take home for the weekend.
-
Guelph GoGo Grandmothers supports the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, raising funds to aid grandmothers in sub-Saharan Africa who are responding to the AIDS epidemic.
A Partnership for Impact:
Clark noted that the Rotary Club of Guelph South is increasingly embracing a partnership model, working alongside charities to maximize their impact. “It’s all about collaboration to create a greater difference in our community,” she said.
Ticketing Details:
While many attendees are purchasing tickets as teams of four, individual players are also welcome to join. Whether you have a team ready or want to meet new people, you can buy one or more tickets and still enjoy the event.
Don’t miss out on this chance to play a game of Scrabble, support fantastic causes, and have a great time!
