Police Body Camera Footage: Footage from a Guelph police officer’s body camera was shown to the jury. The video begins with officers approaching the front door of the residence, responding to a family argument. Jaspal is seen answering the door and then lying on his stomach in the front foyer. Inside, Balbir was found deceased with a large knife in his chest.
Bloodstain Pattern Analysis: Forensic officers testified about bloodstains found on Jaspal’s clothing and the crime scene. Bloodstains on the inner right thigh of Jaspal’s pants suggested he may have been sitting on Balbir during the incident. Additionally, Balbir’s abdomen had bloodstains, supporting this theory.
DNA Evidence: Forensic biologists analyzed various items, including a pair of black socks found in the dining room. The socks were stained with blood, and DNA analysis indicated the presence of two males, one possibly being Jaspal. A knife sheath found in the kitchen drawer contained DNA from at least three individuals, consistent with the household members.
Witness Testimony: Tenant Aryan Bharadwaj, residing in the basement of the Sidhu home, testified hearing sounds of running, glass breaking, and someone falling from upstairs around the time of the incident. He called 911 upon hearing these disturbances.
