New Partnership to Enhance HIV Supports in Guelph Community

New Partnership to Enhance HIV Supports in Guelph Community

The Guelph Community Health Centre (Guelph CHC) and The AIDS Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener Waterloo and Area (ACCKWA) are joining forces to bolster HIV service delivery for Guelph-Wellington community members, as directed by the Ontario Ministry of Health, starting April 1, 2024.

Expanded Services for Enhanced Support

Guelph CHC will expand its offerings to include harm reduction services such as the Stay Sharp Needle Exchange Program, complementing its existing HIV clinical services and gender-affirming healthcare. Simultaneously, ACCKWA will focus on delivering crucial HIV support services.

According to Ruth Cameron, Executive Director of ACCKWA, “Our organizations are collaborating closely to ensure seamless continuity for clients accessing these vital services.”

Transitioning Smoothly for Clients’ Benefit

ACCKWA, headquartered in the Waterloo Region, will initially operate from a temporary space within a Guelph CHC location until a permanent location is established in Guelph.

Melissa Kwiatkowski, CEO of Guelph CHC, emphasizes their commitment to minimizing disruptions for clients: “For many clients using services, this change may come unexpectedly. We are diligently working to ensure that no Guelph-based clients encounter barriers in accessing the care and support they require.”

Ensuring Uninterrupted Services

The partnership aims to prevent any interruption to services that were previously provided by ARCH. Both organizations have collaborated to develop a comprehensive FAQ document for clients, in partnership with ARCH, to address any queries or concerns.

Immediate Assistance Available

In case of immediate support needs, individuals can reach out to ACCKWA or Guelph CHC directly. This strategic partnership reflects a proactive approach to enhancing HIV support services and ensuring continued access to essential healthcare resources in the Guelph community.
