A Guelph teenager is facing charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and crashing it during a joyride, according to the Guelph Police Service.

Police say the 18-year-old found a set of car keys in the hallway of a Willow Road apartment building on Monday. Instead of turning them in, he located the vehicle—a Lexus—unlocked it, and drove it away from the parking lot.

Later that night, around 11 p.m., the suspect was involved in a collision just outside Guelph.

The next morning, the vehicle’s owner noticed it was missing and immediately contacted police.

Following an investigation, officers arrested the teen on Wednesday. He is now facing motor vehicle theft charges and is scheduled to appear in court on March 25.
