Guelph’s Member of Parliament, Lloyd Longfield, announced the investment on behalf of Labour and Seniors Minister Seamus O’Regan Jr. on Thursday, May 30. The funding is part of the NHSP, which seeks to create opportunities for seniors to be more connected, supported, and active members of their community.

“Loneliness is an awful thing, and too many seniors feel lonely,” said O’Regan in a news release. “They want to be active and feel like they’re part of their community, giving back, helping out, looking after themselves. It’s so important. New Horizons helps make those connections and do all that.”

City of Guelph — Community Growth Project

Seniors who are part of this program will host gardening workshops and horticultural therapy sessions.

Oxford Stone Lodge

The investment will fund the purchase of new equipment and upgrades to the activity room, allowing seniors to host social gatherings in a more welcoming space.

Additional Projects

Other organizations receiving funding include the Guelph Tool Library and Guelph Community Health Care, among others. These projects will help seniors stay active, informed, and socially connected in their community.
