Golf for Griefwalk 2024: Supporting Those Mourning Life's Losses

Grief is a universal human experience that is often misunderstood or stigmatized in society. The pain of loss, whether it’s the death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or other significant life changes, can be deeply challenging. That’s where Griefwalk comes in. As a non-profit supported by Lakeside Church in Guelph, Griefwalk has been providing crucial support, understanding, and compassion since its launch in 2010.

A Beacon of Hope for the Broken-Hearted

“Griefwalk was launched out of a desire to care for the broken-hearted,” says Elizabeth Lengyel, Griefwalk’s Program Director. The organization offers a safe space for individuals to find understanding, hope, care, and compassion on their grief journey. Through various programs, including bereavement loss support, companion support, job loss support, grief counseling referrals, and educational seminars, Griefwalk stands as a beacon of empathy and understanding.

You’re Not Alone

Elizabeth Lengyel, who lost her mother several years ago, understands the profound impact of grief firsthand. She emphasizes, “At some point, everyone is touched by the loss of a loved one, and if we haven’t yet, we will be. Life is never the same after we’ve lost someone dear to us.” Griefwalk operates on a peer-based model, where trained facilitators support participants, fostering relationships and forming bonds beyond the program’s duration.

Healing Through Community

Central to Griefwalk’s work is providing a supportive community where individuals can connect with others who share similar experiences and struggles. Lengyel highlights, “It’s validating to know that they’re not alone and it strengthens them to know that others are walking the same journey.” Through its compassionate approach and inclusive community, Griefwalk offers a lifeline to the broken-hearted, guiding them toward healing and health.

Golf for Griefwalk Tournament: A Day of Remembrance and Celebration

Golf for Griefwalk Tournament stands as the charity’s flagship fundraising event. It not only raises vital funds but also provides an opportunity for participants to remember their loved ones while enjoying a day of golf and camaraderie. Elizabeth Lengyel notes, “The feeling people receive when they walk up to their hole and golf in honor of their loved one is incredible.” The tournament brings people together, celebrating cherished memories and supporting a noble cause.
