Time to put your city smarts to the test. We’re launching a new challenge for history buffs and longtime residents alike—welcome to CityKWiz.

The name says it all: Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge take center stage in this playful memory test. Over the next two weeks, we’ll be posting a total of eight mystery photos, each one linked to one of the region’s three cities. Your job? Identify which photo belongs to which city, and tell us what you think is happening in each image.

This week, four photos are going live. The next four will appear on March 29. Only after all eight are published should you send in your answers—entries are due by noon on April 1. And yes, there’s a reward for the most accurate (and insightful) submission.

The prize? Your choice between two local history gems:
📘 Kitchener (Berlin) 1880–1960 (2002)
📙 Flash from the Past (2018)

If there’s a tie in correct guesses, the entry with the best background info about the photos will take the win. So bring your A-game and those well-worn stories from grandparents, neighbors, or your own childhood.

A tip: if you’re reading this in print, clip the page. If you’re reading online, bookmark the article. You’ll want all eight photos handy when it’s time to make your final guesses.

And just so you know—this isn’t an official contest by The Record. It’s a personal initiative to connect with readers and unearth more of our community’s rich history.

Each photo set will include at least one image from each city—Waterloo, Cambridge, and Kitchener. No township photos this time around; we’re keeping it city-focused.

So dust off those local memories, compare notes with family and friends, and get ready for a stroll down memory lane. The past is waiting—can you recognize it?
