Bandology, a non-profit organization dedicated to musical education, has announced that Allen Carter will serve as the music director for this year’s Guelph Band Camp. Carter, who conducts the Guelph Symphony Youth Orchestra, brings over 30 years of experience as a professional musician to the role.

Guelph Band Camp will take place at the Guelph Youth Music Centre from July 28 to August 1. Open to students from Grades 1 to 12, the camp provides a week of music education, fun activities, and the opportunity to build friendships. High school students in Grade 11 and above can also apply to be music mentors, earning volunteer hours in the process.

The camp offers a dynamic experience, including daily dance parties, a camp T-shirt, a group photo, and a special Friday concert and pizza party to showcase the campers’ progress.

Band Camp tuition is $395, while Band Camp Junior is available for $295. Financial aid is available for families in need, and students who require instruments can take advantage of Bandology’s Instrument Library loan program.

Carter, an accomplished tubist, serves as the principal player for both the Guelph Symphony Orchestra and the Brantford Symphony Orchestra. He is also a highly sought-after musician, regularly performing with the Toronto Concert Orchestra and other ensembles. His experience spans TV, film, and radio performances.

Sandy Wright, Bandology’s education manager and Guelph Band Camp director, expressed enthusiasm for Carter’s return, noting his impactful contributions to last year’s Kitchener-Waterloo camp.

Carter himself is looking forward to another fantastic session. “The 2024 camp was my first with Bandology, and it was an incredible experience,” he said. “I’m so proud of what the campers achieve throughout the week. The Friday concert really highlights their growth, confidence, and hard work.”

Registration for Band Camp is now open—don’t miss the chance to give your child a memorable and enriching musical experience this summer!
